Captivating and Intense Adventure

I received a First Reads advanced copy. Thank you Goodreads and Irl M. Davis. This was a captivating and intense adventure that felt unique. I loved that the story was based on the author’s incredible great-grandmother. The author himself seems to have had an interesting and varied life that shines through in the story.

A Polly fan for life

I received this book through the goodreads first-reads program, I really enjoyed this book and fell in love with the strong female characters. It’s the story of a woman (Siobhan) visiting her father before his death and finding the journals of Polly, as she started reading them, she realized it was the story of Polly’s life starting on the Oregon trail. It starts with Polly losing her mother and having her father marry a horrible woman with an even more horrible son. It was a book of survival, despair, revenge, and conquering your past. Siobhan realizes in the end she has more in common with Polly than she ever realized. I really enjoyed the illustrations in this novel, and I loved that as a series book it still had a conclusion. I can’t wait for the next one to come out. Definitely a Polly fan for life.

“Polly” SELECTED AS A WINNER IN THE 35TH ANNUAL TELLY AWARDS

Style: "Neutral"February 27, 2014:   The Telly Awards has named Irl “Mike” Davis as a winner in the 35th Annual Telly Awards for their piece titled Polly: The Mystery of Bonney’s Canyon. With nearly 13,000 entries from all 50 states and numerous countries, this is truly an honor.

This outstanding book trailer is based on Mike’s recent Novel:  Polly: The Mystery of Bonney’s Canyon, which is scheduled for release late 2014.  The Premier of this film will be held at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon on March 29th at 4:30pm.

The Telly Awards was founded in 1979 and is the premier award honoring outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, the finest video and film productions, and online commercials, video and films.  Winners represent the best work of the most respected advertising agencies, production companies, television stations, cable operators, and corporate video departments in the world.

For its 35th season, The Telly Awards once again joined forces with YouTube to give the public the power to view and rate videos submitted as part of the People’s Telly Awards.  In addition to recognition from the Silver Telly Council, the judging panel that selects the Telly Awards winners, the Internet community helps decide the People’s Telly Awards winners.

A prestigious judging panel of over 500 accomplished industry professionals, each a past winner of a Silver Telly and a member of The Silver Telly Council, judged the competition, upholding the historical standard of excellence that Telly represents.  The Silver Council evaluated entries to recognize distinction in creative work – entries do not compete against each other – rather entries are judged against a high standard of merit.

“The Telly Awards has a mission to honor the very best in film and video,” said Linda Day, Executive Director of the Telly Awards.  Irl “Mike” Davis’ accomplishment illustrates their creativity, skill, and dedication to their craft and serves as a testament to great film and video production.”

World Events During the 1860’s

1866 marked the beginning of Polly’s Adventures that changed her life. The World was a turbulent place during this decade. It was a decade with numerous cultural, social, and political upheavals in Europe and America. Revolutions were prevalent in Germany and the Ottoman Empire. The abolition of slavery in America led to the breakdown of the Atlantic Slave Trade, which was already suffering from the abolition of slavery in most of Europe in the late 1820s and ’30s. In America, civil war between the Confederacy of the South and the Northern states led to massive deaths and the destruction.  The First Transcontinental Railroad in the USA was  completed and the Suez Canal in Egypt was opened in 1869.  Did you know that in 1863 the submarine was invented?  Dynamite was created in Germany during this decade at the same time Lewis Carroll published “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and when the sport of skiing was invented (around 1862-63).
